September 4, 2011 during the celebration of Moscow birthday RU-CENTER organized the third stage of collecting signatures in support of the domains for the Russian capital. The event was held in the Moscow Tsaritsyno open-air museum.

During the campaign more than 2.5 thousand people voted for the introduction of the capital's domains. Thus, the total number of signatures in support of the domains .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА exceeded 12.5 thousand.

On Moscow Birthday a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Foundation for Assistance for Internet Technologies and Infrastructure Development, dotCities and dotBERLIN was signed.

This Memorandum will allow the parties to establish effective exchange of information and experience in implementation of top-level domains for the cities and, thus, contribute to the successful introduction .MOSCOW, .МОСКВА and .BERLIN TLDs. In addition the memorandum provides the organization of joint activities aimed at popularizing the idea of creating domains for the cities.

On 4 September 2011, during Moscow birthday celebration, in the city Tsaritsyno park will be organized the collection of signatures in support of .MOSCOW/.МОСКВА implementation. The event will be held as a part of the action “My home is Moscow” that is organized by RU-CENTER.

The first stage of the offline signature collection took place about one year ago also in Tsaritsyno park. That time .MOSCOW/.МОСКВА TLDs got 2000 signatures in support.

The total number of signatures today is nearly 10 000.

On 20 June 2011 New gTLD program was approved by the ICANN Board. There was 13 votes in favour, just one – against, 3 members of the Board abstained.

Prior to the voting some representatives of the ICANN managing body said that the program still is not ideal, but to revise it the launch of the process is required to get some feedback and understand the things that should be updated.

A couple of days ago the head of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Mass Communications of Permskiy Krai N.V. Novichkov said the authorities the region were interested to get TLD .PERM for the needs of the region.

Thus, Perm can become the second city in Russia to start its own top-level domain implementation project.

The idea of starting .PERM came after the authorities of the Perm region learned about the plans of .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА TLDs introduction.

The Meeting that will be held from 13 to 18 March, 2011. One of the sponsors of the event is RU-CENTER, the registrar initiated .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА implementation. The company will distribute special Domain names magazine digest on the Meeting.

The digest is composed of the materials that were included in Russian Domain Names Magazine, which has been published by RU-CENTER for several years.

One of the articles in the digest is devoted to the initiative of TLDs' introduction that will be intended for the Russian capital.

To win in the nomination that was established to support .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА implementation participants of the contest should prepare a banner or a drawing made by hand or on computer. The topic of the drawing was Digital Moscow or Moscow in the Internet.

11 years old Valeria Gabchuk from Kaluga and 12 years old Elena Khvostionok from Engels became the winners in the nomination according to jury decision.

The founder of the nomination is RU-CENTER, the company initiated TLDs .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА implementation.

“Interneshka” contest is organized by Russian Foundation “Friendly RUnet”. The purpose of the contest is to teach children to use Internet and mobile phones safely. “Interneshka” includes variety of creative tasks and a brain competition.

On Russian Internet Week 2010, the main Internet industry event, a round table discussion regarding .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА was organized.
 
During the session a Community movement called “Union for development of geographical, cultural and linguistic TLDs” was introduced. One of the goals of the Union is support of .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА implementation.

On October the 7th, in Central Journalist House in Moscow a round table discussion about the future of Internet and DNS was organized by RU-CENTER, the leading Russian domain name services provider.

A development of DNS was considered on the example of .MOSCOW and .МОСКВА implementation. Opinion of experts divided.

On the one hand, fears about uncontrolled expansion of DNS and consequent risk to its stability have been expressed. Another point of view predicted death of domains as a way of identification in the future.
